We recognise what an important role we play in each child’s development. Most of all, we want our children to be happy, confident and secure.
We are fortunate in that the Nursery is adjacent to a play park and green belt playing fields for which we have direct access from the Nursery. In addition, the Nursery gardens include four play areas, a lawn with flowerbeds, a bark park, woodland garden and a soft surfaced enclosed courtyard. We are well equipped for both indoor and outdoor activities.
Early Years Foundation Stage
Throughout The Village Nursery we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfil their potential.
The Early Years Foundation Stage sets the standards that all early years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. There are four guiding principles: every child is a unique child; children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships; children learn and develop well in an enabling environment; children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates.
- The nursery years should be a enjoyable and rewarding experience for every family
- We promise to respect the individual needs of each child, providing equality of opportunity for all children regardless of race, gender or culture

The Village Nursery is owned by husband & wife team, John & Maureen Scott, and their company name is Nanny Tots Ltd. Maureen is a very experienced and fully qualified early year’s teacher, with Early Years Professional status (E.Y.P.), which is reflected right across the nursery via learning activities from the Baby Unit upwards.
The Nursery Structure
The Village Nursery is divided into five groups:
- The Bumble Bees – 6 weeks to 12 months
- The Caterpillar Crew – 12 months to 18 months
- The Butterfly Bunch – 18 months to 2½ years
- The Squirrels Nest - 2½ years to 3 years
- The Den Pre-school – 3 to 5 years
The early years are vital for a child’s development and so we take great care in grouping the under fives. The ages of the children in the groups are approximate depending on a child’s individual ability and development. Every child has a Key carer, a Nursery Nurse assigned to them to work with you to follow your child’s development and progress. Each group has a Manager / Senior Nursery Nurse who has overall responsibility for their section, and is also available to talk to about your child.
We have our very own cook on the premises who provides home-cooked hot meals daily.
- A light breakfast for early starters at 9am
- Juice, milk or water during the morning and afternoon breaks
- Hot, two course lunches and afternoon tea
- Formula milk feeds for babies are provided by the nursery
We cater for special diets where possible, e.g. vegetarian, and/or religious diets and allergies. All of the children benefit from a balanced diet with fresh vegetables, fruit, milk, and we are careful to ensure a low sugar and salt content.
The day to day running of the nursery is supervised by the Nursery Manager, and the Deputy Nursery Manager, which is overseen by the Owners/Managers Maureen & John Scott.
Who are the childcare staff?
We have fully qualified Nursery Nurses who have gained professional qualifications, such as NNEB, Btec., NVQ 5,4,3,2. We also employ experienced Nursery Assistants and Nursery Nurse Trainees who are assessed regularly and are working towards childcare qualifications. Everyone working in the nursery has undergone an Enhanced Criminal Record Bureau check. All our professionals are dedicated and fully committed to providing the finest care for the children.
The Nursery Day
Children are offered free play and structured play, together with a learning environment that is tailored to the individual needs of the child. A wide variety of equipment and activities are offered within the nursery allowing your child to develop. As your child progresses through the nursery, their day will become more structured as we help them to take their first steps into the world of learning and education. We have music with “Music Makers” and “Jo Jingles”, qualified music teachers, and our older children enjoy learning French in a fun way with a qualified specialist teacher in early language learning for children – “Le Club Francais”. The nursery follows the Early Years Foundation Stage, which your Key Carer will work with your child, keeping you informed of the progress.
